The tampon guide – how to use a tampon
How to insert a tampon is a common question when using a tampon for the first time. This guide is for you who need some guidance and tips on how to use a tampon. Let’s start!
Step 1: Choose the right size
The first thing to consider when choosing a tampon, is to choose a size based on the menstrual flow. The size of the tampon has nothing to do with the size of the vagina. The tampon should be thoroughly moistened and should not me removed if dry. It can damage the mucous membrane. Do not choose a larger tampon in order to change it more rarely. The tampon should never be left inside for more than 8 hours.
The drops on the jar symbolize how much menstrual fluid the tampon absorbs.
- ellen® Probiotic Tampon Light suits less menstrual flow, that you can have for example at the end of the period.
- ellen® Probiotic Tampon Medium fits easily to less to normal bleeding.
- ellen® Probiotic Tampon Rich is the tampon with the highest absorbency and is suitable if you have heavy bleeding.
Excessive bleeding
How much one bleed varies and can also vary during the period. Some women have very heavy bleeds without anything being wrong, but it may be good to get it checked if you:
- Have to get up in the middle of the night to change your menstrual product.
- Bleed through your menstrual product, even though you have adjusted your menstrual product according to how heavy the bleed is.
Step 2: How to insert a tampon?
If this is the first time you are going to use a tampon, it can easily be a little nervous. It will pass quickly and you will get used to it over time. If you are unsure where the tampon should be inserted, it is a good idea to get familiar with how it looks like down there. Squat down, place a small mirror between your legs and look.
If you feel that you know where the tampon should be inserted, you can start by washing your hands. You should preferably touch the tampon itself as little as possible before inserting it.
Put your finger on the underside of the tampon, separate the labia and gently slide the tampon upwards, into the vagina until you no longer feel it. The string, on the other hand, should hang out. It is with the string that you will pull out the tampon with.
How do i know if the tampon is inserted correctly?
When the tampon is inserted correctly, you should hardly notice it and it should not feel uncomfortable in any way. If it doesn’t feel good, you can try to take it out and insert it again or you can try to push it in a little further.
Step 3 – Time to remove the tampon
When it’s time to take out the tampon, pull it out using the string. It usually slides out easily, but if it’s not wet enough from the menstruation fluid, it can be a bit hard. Then try to squat and pull it out.
Throw it in the trash
When you have pulled out the tampon, you can roll it up in some paper and throw it in the trash bin. In public toilets, there is sometimes a special bin for menstrual protection, then you should throw it in there. Do not flush the tampon as it’s both bad for the environment but cn also lead to you causing a blockage in the toilet.
