Ellen’s Probiotic Tampons
WHAT ARE PROBIOTICS?
Probiotics is a term that refers to beneficial bacteria primarily found in our intestines, and also present in the vagina. The probiotics residing in the vagina primarily comprise lactic acid bacteria. These bacteria play a pivotal role in establishing an acidic environment that is unfavorable for the growth of undesirable bacteria.
Why use probiotic tampons?
During menstruation, the body’s estrogen levels are at their lowest, leading to reduced natural growth of lactic acid bacteria compared to other times. These bacteria are crucial for good intimate health as they produce lactic acid, which lowers the pH level in the vagina, creating an environment where harmful and unwanted bacteria cannot thrive. Additionally, menstrual fluid can contribute to an increased vaginal pH level. This is a completely natural process in the genital area but unfortunately can cause discomfort and issues for many women during their period.
By adding natural lactic acid bacteria during menstruation, you can assist the vagina in maintaining its pH balance, thereby reducing the risk of imbalance that can lead to genital discomfort.
How probiotic tampons work
To maintain the quality of the bacteria in the tampons, they have been packaged in metal cans with airtight lids and desiccant bags to keep moisture away. For prolonged durability, keep the desiccant bag in the can after opening. Ellen’s tampon cans are, of course, recyclable.
